Summary

Shelley A Smith
The art of leadership is in how we align how we want to be seen with how others see us.  Our intentions and mindsets that lie deep within us, and our ability to truly see our reflection as others do, are the foundations of presence, leadership effectiveness, and living a growth mindset.
I found my way to LAK Group through the financial services and health care industries as well as through growth and reflection on my own skills, talents, purpose, and mindsets. LAK Group's focus ON PURPOSE and transformation both big and small are just a couple of reasons why I am proud to be a part of this team of very passionate and talented individuals.

When I went to school and told my father I was going to get a degree in math, he asked me how I planned to make a living with it. At the time, the only answer I could give him was to be a high school math teacher.  Today, when people ask me how I use my degree in mathematics, I explain that I use it to help others see beauty and find confidence in dealing with complexity.

In Mathematics, there is a solution to every problem.  It may take a while to find and may require looking at a problem from a number of different directions and depths, but there is a solution.  It is a matter of keeping the end in mind while appreciating all of the individual pieces.  Throughout my life, people have told me that I have a unique talent in seeing the potential in people and things and in breaking down the complex into more understandable pieces and connections.

In my work as a consultant and coach, I lean on those skills to help people and organizations see how things are connected, how the pieces need to be considered as well as the whole, and how to take a deeper look inward and broader look outward when looking for a solution.

As a credentialed coach, experienced leader, and practitioner of best practices in leadership and organization development, I have helped my clients achieve recognizable change in their own behavior, influence change in other's behavior, and lead changes in such things as organization restructuring and talent identification and development processes, resulting in more engaged, productive, and successful individuals, teams, and organizations.

My clients and partners  have included CEOs, Vice Presidents, Chief Medical Officers, Department Chairs, and people in other various levels of leaders.  The work I've done has spanned several industries including financial services, health care, manufacturing, food services, retail, and professional services.

Growth Mindset

The wealth of research into the brain and how it functions is giving everyone an opportunity to better understand what is behind our thoughts, intentions, beliefs, and actions.  Carol Dweck's research on fixed and growth mindsets is an integral part of this research.

Our mindset is a foundation but is not definitive.  As human beings, we have the ability to change our mindset.  That is our hidden super power - hidden because we seldom allow ourselves to identify what our mindset is about...
